Dakota Johnson Introduces Taylor Swift as Her 'Therapist' During SNL Monologue After 'Patient Zero' Music Video
Swift joined Johnson's SNL monologue before returning later in the episode with a birthday cake for her friend

Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance during Dakota Johnson's opening monologue on 'Saturday Night Live' on 3 October 2026, joining a comedy routine about the actress's relationships with musicians. Johnson introduced Swift as her 'literal therapist', a description the singer immediately rejected.
Johnson was hosting the programme for the third time ahead of her 37th birthday on Sunday, 4 October. The appearance followed her role in Swift's 'Patient Zero' music video, which premiered at the MTV Video Music Awards on 27 September.
Swift Joins Johnson's Dating Jokes
Johnson's monologue included jokes about her relationships with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and singer Role Model. She then introduced Swift while discussing the support she received from her friends following those relationships.
'I have really good friends. They don't judge me for dating these men. They're actually really supportive,' Johnson said before describing Swift as her 'literal therapist'.
'I'm not your therapist, actually,' Swift replied. 'You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some.'
The scripted exchange continued with jokes about Johnson discussing her problems on Swift's couch. Swift described her response as 'damn, that's crazy', followed by giving the 'Verity' star Pedialyte before security took the actress home.
Johnson also joked that dating musicians was a 'public service' because she was saving other women money on Zoloft. The remarks continued the monologue's theme of her two reported breakups.
Swift was a surprise guest rather than the episode's musical performer. The band Turnstile appeared as the musical guest during Johnson's return to the NBC programme.
Friendship and 'Patient Zero' Collaboration
Speaking to BBC Radio 1's Greg James before the SNL appearance, Johnson said she and Swift were 'really good friends' who discussed 'everything on the planet', including true crime. She described Swift as a 'genius person' while discussing their collaboration on 'Patient Zero'.
Johnson appears alongside Colin Farrell in the Swift-directed music video. She also presented Swift with the inaugural Artist Director Honors award at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, where the video premiered after the singer's acceptance speech.
Swift also won Video of the Year for 'The Fate of Ophelia', surpassing Beyoncé as the most decorated solo artist in VMA history.
In the radio interview, Johnson also discussed attending Swift's wedding to Travis Kelce, describing the ceremony as something Swift had always dreamed of and saying it felt 'completely her'.
Reported Splits With Martin and Role Model
People reported on 4 June 2025, citing multiple sources, that Johnson and Martin had ended their nearly eight-year, on-and-off relationship. They were first linked in 2017, and the magazine had previously reported that they were engaged.
Johnson and Role Model, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, were first romantically linked in December 2025. Johnson later provided a spoken-word cameo on 'Love I You', a track from Pillsbury's album 'Chuck Timely & the Hourglass'.
On 19 August 2026, the same celebrity magazine reported, citing a source, that Johnson and Pillsbury had separated 'a while ago'. The source did not provide a precise date for the breakup.
Swift returned during the programme's closing goodnights with a blue-and-white birthday cake for Johnson, who turned 37 on Sunday.
