Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed Memphis Depay and James Wilson are likely to miss the Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday 31 October after suffering injuries during the Capital One Cup defeat against Middlesbrough. Meanwhile, the manager has confirmed that Antonio Valencia, and Paddy McNair remain on the treatment table alongside long-term absentee Luke Shaw.

The Premier League giants visit Selhurst Park in search for a victory after three unimpressive consecutive draws against CSKA Moscow, Manchester City and Boro, losing against the latest in the penalty shoot out after being unable to score a goal in the previous 120 minutes.

Van Gaal has confirmed the League Cup defeat was not just bad for the result but also because both Depay and Wilson picked up injuries during the game – both had to be replaced during the game by Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney.

"Willo was injured but also Memphis Depay was injured," Van Gaal told MUTV. "It was a very bad game afterwards because we lost on penalties and also we lost two players. We have to wait and see [how long they are unavailable for] because it was only two days ago."

The Dutch manager also confirmed that Valencia remains on the sidelines after the versatile full-back already missed the League Cup defeat, having suffered a foot injury during the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Sunday 25 October.

McNair, meanwhile, is yet to play since suffering a serious injury on international duty for Northern Ireland, while Shaw is till recovering from a double fracture of the leg that he sustained in the Champions League defeat at PSV Eindhoven earlier in the season.
