Davy Jones, the teen idol of the 1960s and 70s pop band The Monkees, died on Wednesday after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home in Florida.

The popular NBC comedy series "The Monkees" was based on a fictional pop group that was inspired by the Beatles' film "A Hard Day's Night" in 1966. The band members included Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork and gave several hits including "I'm a Believer" and "Last Train to Clarksville".
