Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has urged Manchester United not to sign Juventus star Paul Pogna for £100m ($131.6m) and instead splash that cash in landing former Liverpool star and Barcelona striker Luis Suarez. The France international is heavily linked with the Red Devils this summer and their manager Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing the midfielder to Old Trafford.

Pogba left United as a free agent and completed his switch to the Turin club in 2012. Since joining Juventus, he has won four Serie A titles and has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe. His form has seen him attract interest from clubs across the continent, particularly United, who are willing to pay the mammoth fee in re-signing him.

Real Madrid were also looking at Pogba, but they have ended their interest in the player. Petit has said that the reason behind their decision not to pursue their interest in the midfielder is the player's £100m price tag.

"For £100m, I would buy Suarez from Barcelona," Petit told Yahoo Eurosport. "They say [Pogba's price tag is] £100m... it is a waste of money for me."

"Pogba has a great future, but this move is too early for him. I don't like the situation around him all the time. We are making him out to be a big star, but he is not a big star to me.

"He hasn't reached the level of the Champions League yet or the level with the national team. I am pretty sure he can do it, but this is too early for him. People talk about him all the time in the press, but I haven't seen it yet. For the moment, I am not really convinced.

"If Real Madrid wanted this player, they would put the money on the table, but they don't want to fight with Man Utd for Pogba. There is a reason for that."
