Trump Health Clips Spark Dementia Claims From Psychologist as White House Doctor Insists He's Fine

A forensic psychologist's viral breakdown of Donald Trump's public appearances has fuelled fresh dementia and stroke speculation, yet no doctor who has examined the 80-year-old president backs the claims, and his own White House physician calls him healthy.

The Clips Driving the Claims

Dr John Paul Garrison, a Georgia-based clinical and forensic psychologist who posts body-language breakdowns online as 'Dr G', reviewed footage of Trump at a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) ceremony in Houston on 28 August and, in a video posted the next day, called it the most concerning he had seen. He said the president appeared to show a 'distinct and concerning neurological event' that seemed to travel across both hemispheres of his brain.

Garrison pointed to a sequence of a right-arm jerk, a blink, a vocal stumble, then a left-arm jerk, arguing it looked like a focal-aware seizure, a type sometimes seen in people who have had a stroke. He also flagged a 27 August clip in which Trump crossed out 'Lake Ontario' on a map and wrote 'Lake America', the same day he signed an order directing the renaming.

Within hours, slowed-down versions of the NASA clip spread across X and TikTok, with some users calling the footage 'scary'.

A Diagnosis Without an Examination

Garrison has never examined Trump, is not his treating doctor, and is not a neurologist. His read rests entirely on public video, and he has said plainly he is not diagnosing the president. 'I'm not insisting that's what's going on with him,' he said, 'but it is clearly something neurological.'

He has floated Alzheimer's-type dementia and Lewy body dementia as possibilities, while stressing they are theories, not findings. Nothing in the clips confirms dementia, no physician close to Trump has raised it, and no scan or test has been made public.

What Trump's Doctors Actually Found

Trump underwent an evaluation at Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre this year, and a 29 May 2026 White House report from Physician to the President Dr Sean Barbabella said he remained in 'excellent health' with strong cardiac, pulmonary, and neurological function.

That report described a normal neurological exam covering mental status, reflexes, gait, and balance, and recorded a perfect 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Trump has also said he passed multiple cognitive tests. The White House has not commented on Garrison's latest video, and the president's team has dismissed such clip analysis as armchair diagnosis.

An Echo of the Biden Age Debate

For US voters, the stakes are direct. The cognitive fitness of an 80-year-old commander-in-chief raises the question of who is actually steering the government day to day. It is also a test of how much weight to give viral video against a formal medical exam.
