Followed by the Android 4.1.2 XXELL6 (Jelly Bean) firmware, another official software update - Android 4.1.2 XXELLC - has been released for the international version of Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300). The update brings new features like Multi-View, Page Buddy and the new Gallery app, as well a customisable Notification panel and the ability to disable the Brightness slider in the Notification panel.

The aforementioned firmware is compatible only with Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300). Flashing this firmware on any other variant may brick the device. Before following the tutorial, users are advised to ensure their devices meet requirements mentioned below.

Pre-Requisites

  • Download and install USB drivers for Samsung Galaxy S3
  • Enable USB debugging mode (to do so, navigate through Menu > Settings > Applications > Development Option and ensure USB debugging option is turned on)
  • Create back-up for all data, including APN settings
  • Ensure battery has at at least 80 percent charge
  • Ensure phone is factory unlocked

To Install Android 4.1.2 XXELLC (Jelly Bean) on Galaxy S3 (I9300)

  • Download Android 4.1.2 XXELLC firmware to computer and extract contents of zip file
  • Download Odin v1.85 and extract contents
  • Switch phone off and place device in Download mode (to do so, press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power until the construction Android robot and triangle appear and then press Power again)
  • Run Odin and connect device to computer using USB cable (a successful connection is indicated by an ID:COM box turning yellow with a COM port number; this may take some time)
  • In Odin select these files (extracted from XXELLC folder) in the order mentioned
  • Click PDA and select file with CODE in its name
  • Click Phone and select file with Modem in its name
  • Click CSC and select file with CSC in its name
  • Click PIT and select .pit file
  • Note: Ignore last three steps in case such files are not found
  • Ensure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are selected in Odin. In addition, check Re-Partition option if a .pit file has been selected
  • Click Start in Odin to begin installation (this may take some time to complete)
  • After installation, device will automatically re-start (unplug phone from computer once Home screen appears)

The Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300) should be now running Android 4.1.2 XXELLC (Jelly Bean) official firmware. Navigate to Settings > About Phone to verify software version on device.
