A head teacher who only recently started in the role was found dead at her school, in Worcestershire.

Helen Mann's body was discovered at Sytchampton Endowed First School in Stourtport-on-Severn, by a member of staff, on Monday afternoon

West Mercia police said her death was "unexplained." Mann, 43, had only taken up the post last summer. Local reports claimed she committed suicide.

Less than two weeks before her death, parents of pupils were invited to "meet our new headteacher" on the school's website (above).

Counselors were offering support to pupils and staff at the school, which was not set to reopen its doors until Thursday.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called to Sytchampton Endowed School yesterday at around 4.20pm where a woman in her 40s was found deceased on the school premises.

"Officers are investigating the death, which is being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious and they are compiling a report that will be passed to the Worcestershire Coroner."

John Edwards, Worcestershire County Council's Head of Learning and Achievement said: "Together with the governing body we aim to get the school back open as soon as possible so that support can be provided to those that need it whilst offering a structure of normality."
