Florida Mom, 2 Young Children Dead — Neighbour Says 'Shocking'
Authorities investigate a tragic murder-suicide in Lakewood Ranch, Florida

A 44-year-old mother from Florida allegedly killed her two children before taking her own life on the night of 26 February in an incident that left the Florida community stunned. Authorities are now investigating the case as a murder-suicide.
The Manatee County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that deputies received a welfare check request for a home in the 8200 block of Pavia Way in Lakewood Ranch, Bradenton, Florida, on 26 February 2026. The request had been made by the homeowner, who was in South America during the incident, when he couldn't reach his family, per People.
Deputies were prompted to enter the Lakewood Ranch home after observing circumstances from outside that raised concern, where they discovered a 14-year-old boy and an 11 year-old-girl dead in separate areas of the house. Their 44-year-old mother was also found dead in another part of the house.
A 'Violent Scene' Stuns the Neighbourhood
Randy Warren of the MCSO later told Fox 13, 'We really don't know all that was in her frame of mind. But we are very confident that all the parties that were involved in this are accounted for.' Warren also said that no other person went in or out of the house.
'As tragic as this is, it is really unimaginable that two children were killed in their home by a parent, and then she proceeded to take her own life,' he stated.
According to Warren, the incident in the home was isolated, and there was no ongoing danger to the public related to the tragedy.
'We have no incidents at this address. What we have discovered [is] that the family moved here from out of state, from Missouri, about 3 years ago, and we have not been out here for any calls,' Warren said. 'There's really nothing there that would have indicated this would have happened.'
Warren indicated that it was a 'violent scene,' not providing further details on how the victims died.
Double Homicide Followed by a Suicide
In the news release by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, it said that detectives have concluded that the mother killed the underage victims, who were found in different rooms of the home, before taking her own life. So far, investigators have no reason to believe that any other individuals were involved.
The Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit (MHIU) concluded that these deaths were the result of a double homicide followed by a suicide. The press release also announced that the victims' names, as well as their mother's, will be made public tomorrow, 3 March 2026, to 'allow time for additional family members, some of whom reside outside the country, to be notified.'
Lake Club homeowner and resident Paul Henne told Fox News the incident was startling and jarring in their usually quiet neighbourhood. Henne said, 'It's a total surprise and shock. This neighborhood is so quiet. It's a family community, with small kids it really hits you hard when you hear about that stuff happening.'
Meanwhile, Warren described the scene as particularly difficult for law enforcement to witness. He noted that the father, who was returning from South America, had to be informed upon his arrival. 'It's an incredibly emotional day for him. It's not a good scene at all,' Warren said, adding that the scene was extremely distressing.
