Adding to the pandemic sized number of "leaked" smartphone images sweeping through the tech world, a new report has emerged claiming to have obtained official images of HTC's unconfirmed Explorer smartphone.

Like the current slew of supposed Apple iPhone 5 images doing the rounds in the world's media, the new pictures of HTC's Explorer have emerged before the device's existence has even been confirmed.

The official images were reportedly obtained and leaked by tech site Pocketnow. In keeping with the blurry "leaked" images that appeared earlier in 2011, the new pictures show the Explorer to be housed in a rubbery finish, indicating like the Motorola Defy+ and Sony Ericsson Xperia Active, the device will be yet another "indestructible" smartphone set to appear in late 2011.

The report went on to allege that the Explorer would house a 600MHz processor, 3.2 inch screen and five-megapixel camera. Additionally, unlike a number of other recently announced HTC devices, the Explorer would run Google's Android Gingerbread operating system.

Following Pocketnow's initial leak, another report from Recombu alleged that Clove.co.uk had confirmed to it the Explorer will be available in the UK November.

HTC are yet to release any firm data on the Explorer, making verifying the authenticity of the reports difficult at best.

At the time this article was written HTC had not released any official statement confirming or denying the new rumours.
