Apple's Massive iPhone Duo Gets Trolled After Ads Feature 'Freakishly Long' Fingers to Hold It
The viral image has prompted jokes about the foldable phone's size

Apple's newly launched iPhone Duo has become the subject of an unexpected internet joke after promotional images showing the massive foldable smartphone being held in one hand sparked accusations that the model's fingers had been digitally stretched.
The viral claim began circulating shortly after Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, with social media users questioning whether the unusually long-looking fingers in one of the company's promotional images were genuine. A post amplified by Polymarket jokingly accused Apple of photoshopping 'freakishly long' fingers to make the device appear easier to handle one-handed. There is, however, no confirmed evidence that Apple manipulated the image.
Why Are People Mocking the iPhone Duo Ad?
The controversy centres on an image showing a hand wrapped around the iPhone Duo while it is unfolded. The device has a 7.6-inch internal display, making it substantially larger than a conventional smartphone.
In the viral comparison, the fingers appear unusually elongated around the device, prompting some viewers to joke that Apple had effectively given its model 'alien hands' to make the foldable look comfortable to hold.
The image quickly became a meme, with users questioning whether an ordinary person's hand could realistically grip the phone in the same way.

Did Apple Actually Photoshop the Fingers?
There is currently no definitive evidence that Apple digitally stretched the hand.
As reports on the controversy have noted, the image alone cannot establish whether the fingers were manipulated. Perspective, camera positioning, the model's natural proportions or other forms of advertising retouching could potentially explain the unusual appearance. Apple has also not publicly addressed the specific allegation.
That has not stopped the image from becoming a source of ridicule, however, particularly because the size and usability of the Duo are already likely to be major talking points.
The iPhone Duo Is Apple's Biggest Foldable Yet
The jokes come as Apple attempts to establish itself in the increasingly competitive foldable smartphone market.
The iPhone Duo opens into a 7.6-inch display while folding down into a more compact form. It starts at $1,999 (also listed as £1,999 in the UK), making it Apple's most expensive iPhone, and is designed to combine the portability of a phone with some of the functionality traditionally associated with a tablet.
Apple has positioned the device as a premium product capable of multitasking, including running two apps side by side. It also supports Apple Pencil functionality and uses a foldable-specific version of iOS 27.
Apple Is Already Facing Questions About the Duo's Size
The finger controversy is particularly amusing because one of the biggest questions surrounding the Duo is precisely how practical its large form factor will be.
At 254 grams, the device is heavier than many conventional smartphones, while its landscape-oriented folding design gives it a distinctive shape. Apple is betting that the larger screen will make the additional size worthwhile for consumers interested in productivity, entertainment and multitasking.
Analysts have also questioned who the $1,999 (£1,999 in the UK) phone is actually designed for, with foldables still representing a relatively small part of the overall smartphone market. Reuters reported that Apple could nevertheless sell millions of Duo units during its first year, potentially giving the wider foldable market a significant boost.
The Internet Has Found Apple's First Foldable Meme
Apple's entrance into the foldable market was always likely to attract intense scrutiny, particularly because Samsung and other manufacturers have already spent years developing similar devices.
Now, before the Duo has even reached most consumers' hands, its advertising imagery has provided the internet with an entirely different talking point.
Whether the fingers were genuinely stretched or simply look unusual because of the image, the episode highlights how closely Apple's marketing is examined whenever it introduces a major new product.
For now, there is no proof that Apple altered the model's fingers. But online, the joke has already taken on a life of its own, and the iPhone Duo may have found its first viral controversy before it has even properly arrived in people's pockets.
