Manchester United are preparing to hand a debut to youth signing Kayne Diedrick-Roberts after including the forward in the club's Under-18 side for the 2015-16 season.

Diedrick-Roberts joined from Fulham last season but was unable to prove his fitness in time to feature before the end of the campaign.

The 16-year-old has been named in the United academy squad for the new season by coach Paul McGuinness and is in line to make his bow for the club.

United have also confirmed that McGuiness "is expected to confirm more names and look to his batch of schoolboys for reinforcements".

Josh Doughty has been included in United's Under-21 squad for the new term after featuring for the Under-18's last season after his move from Real Salt Lake.

The Canadian was included in the United Under-21 squad in February last year following his move to Old Trafford in November, but failed to make a single appearance.

However, his inclusion in the squad for the new season means he will have the chance to impress reserve coach Warren Joyce and be next in line to play for the senior team.

Joyce's side won the Under-21 Premier League last season after a restructuring saw the club finish four points ahead of runners-up Liverpool

Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair were promoted into Louis van Gaal's senior side as the club suffered a defensive injury crisis last term.

After decades of the academy set up heavily supplementing the United first team, the quality of players being promoted has significantly regressed with Adnan Januzaj the only notable player to be recently promoted.
