Kirstie Allsopp Reveals Shocking Rescue After Son Ran for Help Following Beach Fall

Kirstie Allsopp has revealed she was airlifted to hospital for surgery after slipping on a steep coastal path in Devon, with her young son Oscar sprinting for help and triggering a major emergency response.

The 55-year-old broadcaster said she was walking back from a birthday beach trip to Welcombe Mouth, near her holiday home Meadowgate on the north Devon coast, when her foot slipped on a muddy patch on the path. She said there was 'a little wait while poor Oscar ran as fast as he could to get help.'

Allsopp said it took 'a whole host of people' to reach her and get her off the path, including the RNLI Bude lifeboat crew, local paramedics and the Cornwall Air Ambulance, who she said used the What3words app to locate her.

Writing on Instagram from her hospital bed, Allsopp said she had been given 'a huge amount of painkillers' once rescuers reached her, which meant she failed to get everyone's names.

She recalled rescuers called Chris and Jeremy, thought there was 'a Lee,' and remembered 'young Jake in the ambulance.' She said her partner Ben and her sons had since told her there were 'far more people than that to thank.'

Photos posted alongside her message showed her with an oxygen tube in place, her leg in a raised cast, an X-ray of the injury, and the air ambulance that flew her to hospital.

She said she expected to be discharged soon but would need a boot and crutches for some time.

'It'll be a boot and crutches for a while, but I feel very, very lucky that it was possible to reach me and get me to hospital so quickly, and I have a job that I can do on crutches,' she wrote, adding it was 'not a birthday I am going to forget in a hurry.'

Fans Hail Emergency Services and Share Their Own Accidents

Allsopp praised staff at Barnstaple Hospital as 'amazing, kind & caring,' joking that 'God only knows what I was like to deal with high as a kite.' The post drew a large response, with followers thanking the emergency services and sharing their own experiences of falls on coastal paths.

One person wrote that they had suffered 'a very similar accident' the previous year, adding a break and an operation of their own. This is not the first fall Allsopp has suffered in recent years.

In September 2023, she fell down a flight of stairs while filming Location, Location, Location at a pub in Stoke Newington, later calling it 'the scariest thing and most painful thing I have ever done in my life.' X-rays and scans at the time showed no broken bones.

Allsopp has not detailed the exact nature of her latest injury. She told followers she hoped to make 'a speedy recovery' so she could be back on her feet as soon as possible.

Allsopp, who has presented Location, Location, Location since 2000, has not specified when she expects to return to filming. Her recovery will depend on how quickly she adjusts to the boot and crutches, she said, but she intended to return to work once she had adjusted to using them.
