The recording was played during a podcast discussion, where Loomer was described as an unofficial adviser and close ally of President Donald Trump. In the 24-second voicemail, Loomer introduced herself before explaining why she had decided to contact Krassenstein.

'Hi Eddie, this is Laura Loomer,' she said.

She then acknowledged that Krassenstein had posted negative material about her but insisted she still supported his right to speak freely.

'I'm calling even though you have posted negative things about me, I still support your right to free speech,' Loomer said.

She then delivered the line that immediately became the focus of the controversy.

'And so if you need any advice on where you can get a good pair of handcuffs, this is my number and you can call me back.'

The voicemail began with a familiar political argument about censorship and social media before taking a decidedly stranger turn.

She ended the message by encouraging him to call or text her and saying she would be happy to assist.

Krassenstein later insisted that the recording was genuine after an X user questioned whether artificial intelligence could have been used to create the voice.
