Spanish side Real Betis are willing to make an approach to sign Liverpool striker Iago Aspas on loan until the end of the season, according to reports in Spain.

Liverpool signed Aspas last summer after paying £7m to Celta to secure his services. However, the Spaniard has struggled to make a great impact in the Premier League with Luis Suárez and Daniel Sturridge being in peak form. He has played eight games, just four as a starter, failing to score any goals during that time.

Last weekend against Hull City he went back to the Liverpool bench after losing five games due to an injury but Brendan Rodgers did not give him the chance to play despite his team needing a goal to beat the Tigers.

Spanish TV Canal Sur claim that Betis want to take advantage of his lack of opportunities with Liverpool to get him on loan until the end of the season.

The Spanish team is currently on the bottom of the table in La Liga and are desperately trying to sign new players in January to avoid dropping to the Second Division. Recently they sacked manager Pepe Mel and the new coach Juan Carlos Garrido would be happy to have Aspas in his squad.

The 26 year old scored 12 goals in La Liga last season at Celta while he got 23 two years ago in the Second Division.

However there are two problems for Betis to secure Aspas. Although the Spaniard is the third choice for Brendan Rodgers they have just lost Sturridge for the next two months and Aspas could be Suarez's back-up during this time. Furthermore, his salary, around £1.2m, is too high for Betis.
