Liverpool have made a further addition to their pre-season tour after they announced four domestic fixtures prior to their tour of the United States earlier in the year. The Reds will travel to Germany and face Jurgen Klopp's former club Mainz 05 in what will be their final warm-up match before the start of the Premier League season on 13 August.

The Merseyside club will play four domestic fixtures against Tranmere Rovers, Fleetwood Town, Wigan Athletic and Huddersfield Town before travelling to the United States, where they will take on Chelsea and AC Milan in the International Champions Cup. Barcelona will be next on their list in the same competition, but the match will take place at the Wembley Stadium on 5 August, following which they will travel to Germany to face the Bundesliga outfit on 7 August.

Loris Karius, who was Klopp's first summer signing from Mainz, could line up against his former club when they face each other at the Opel Arena. The former Borussia Dortmund manager still has close ties with the club he managed from 2001-2008.

Liverpool's chief commercial officer Billy Hogan has revealed that the fixture was organised to give Liverpool's growing fan base in Germany an opportunity to witness the first-team in action.

"We last played Mainz 05 in a friendly in 2006 so it will be great to meet them again this summer," Hogan was quoted as saying on Liverpool's official site.

"Our fanbase in Germany has grown significantly and this will be a fantastic opportunity for our fans in Germany to see the Reds play a Bundesliga team."
