Liverpool have reportedly reignited their interest in signing Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno, according to the Mirror.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the Merseyside club as Brendan Rodgers wanted to bring in a player to strengthen his side's left-back position. The Reds failed to meet the Spanish club's £18m valuation for their player as they were willing to pay only £13.5m for the defender.

Liverpool allowed Luis Suarez join Barcelona last week and the Reds have received a massive fee from their striker's sale, which is believed to be around £75m. The Premier League runners up want to use those funds in order to build a strong squad to challenge for the title and compete in the Champions League next season.

The Anfield club's chief executive Ian Ayre will make a trip to Spain to seal a deal for Moreno. Liverpool are willing to meet Sevilla's £18m asking price for Moreno's services. The Reds supremo confirmed the club will be active throughout the summer transfer window.

"It's all about building and progress. We'll aim to continue that throughout the summer. We've obviously sold Luis, but we've had a busy few weeks with players arriving as well," Ayre told the Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool have Jose Enrique as their first choice left-back in the squad. The Spaniard was sidelined for most part of last season due to injury, which forced Rodgers field right-back Jon Flanagan in that position.

The English outfit cooled their interest in Moreno in the past few weeks, which saw the Reds boss set his sights on making an approach for Swansea City's Ben Davies. However, with Ayre now flying to Spain, the deal could be back on track.

Liverpool will return to the Champions League after a few years of absence and the Northern Irishman is aware that he needs to have good depth in his squad. The same report claims Rodgers could sign both Moreno and Davies in the ongoing transfer window to have a strong squad for the next season.

The Reds have already sealed a deal for Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Emre Can this summer. A move for Moreno could likely see Rodgers end Liverpool's interest in Davies.
