Full time: Liverpool 1-1 Norwich City

Liverpool are left frustrated as their deluge of attacking players fail to get the job done against Norwich, who were worth their point. Danny Ings netted his first Reds goal but Russell Martin scored his third of the season to grab a point. John Ruddy was the hero thereafter, saving from Coutinho to grab the Canaries a point.

John Ruddy to the rescue against for Norwich. Adam Lallana and then Danny Ings pile through the Norwich back four and Ruddy comes out to shepherd the ball out of play. Eight more minute for them to survive.

Philippe Coutinho clean through on goal but Ruddy somehow keeps it out and Norwich survive. Liverpool hardly fresh on ideas but they continue to probe.

Mignolet keeps Norwich from taking the lead at Anfield as Matt Jarvis gets on the end of Cameron Jerome's cross but the Liverpool 'keeper keeps it out.

Goal: Liverpool 1-1 Norwich City (Russell Martin)

Remember where you were. Russell Martin scores a beauty and Norwich are back in the game from absolutely nothing. Mignolet comes to punch a corner and doesn't get enough on it and Martin takes the ball on his chest and loops the ball over the Belgian from close range. Liverpool react by bringing Adam Lallana on for Daniel Sturridge.

Coutinho goes close to making it two but his angled shot goes just wide of the top corner. Liverpool much the better since the goal, Norwich merely surviving.

Goal: Liverpool 1-0 Norwich City (Danny Ings)

Danny Ings scores his first goal since his summer move from Burnley to give Liverpool the lead. A long ball downfield see Ings latch onto it, taking it away from Bassong and sliding past the onrushing Ruddy.

Nathan Redmond with the first effort in anger at the start of the second half from fully 30 yards and it flies over Mignolet's goal. The Belgian has been a bit of a spectator so far.

Change for Liverpool at the start of the second half as Danny Ings comes on for Christian Benteke.

Half time: Liverpool 0-0 Norwich City

Liverpool frustrated by Norwich as the first half comes to an end. The Reds have had plenty of opportunity but not much in the way of genuine chances at Anfield. Daniel Sturridge has looked like a player without a league start since March and has missed several guilt-edged chances. Norwich have been compact and at time comfortable but their goalkeeper John Ruddy threatens to be a busy man in the second half.

Liverpool having plenty of opportunities in attack but not taking advantage through their three-pronged attack in Benteke, Sturridge and Coutinho. The latter has the most recent effort, which is deflected into the hands of Ruddy.

Daniel Sturridge denied by John Ruddy who makes a full length save when he should have done a little better. Benteke and Milner now combine again but Ruddy cuts it out.

Nathaniel Clyne smashes one goalwards and it goes just wide of John Ruddy's goal. Two shots on goal from the hosts in the first half here. Not exactly a stunning performance.

Robbie Brady runs unmarked down the left and lashes a shot over the bar. Bit wasteful from the former Manchester United trainee.

Norwich City than holding their own in this first half at Anfield. Liverpool have had plenty of the ball and several penalty appeals but the visitors, away day specialists remember during Alex Neil's tenure, look comfortable.

Anthony Taylor waves away appeals for a penalty as James Milner is felled by James Whittaker. Looked like a delay fall from the England man and perhaps only brief contact between the two players.

Under way at Anfield.

Players in the tunnel at Anfield. Big game for Liverpool, but there is no undervaluing this game for newly promoted Norwich, who will be keen to react after a number of their relegation rivals picked up weekend points.

There is no underestimating what a big day in Liverpool's the return of Daniel Sturridge is. The England international has been missing for long periods of the last 12 months and it could be a real difference maker this season for the struggling Reds. No doubt manager Brendan Rodgers couldn't resist putting him in.

Let's begin our build up to this one by adding some meat to the bone of the team news. Liverpool welcome back Daniel Sturridge from the start in the league for the first time since March. Mamadou Sakho and Alberto Moreno return to the team in the Premier League too, as does Philippe Coutinho after suspension.

Norwich make two changes. One of which is enforced as on loan defender Andre Wisdom drops out as he is unable to play against his parent club, while Wes Hoolahan is replaced by Graeme Dorrans.

Team news:

Liverpool: Mignolet; Clyne, Skrtel, Sakho, Moreno; Lucas, Can, Milner; Coutinho, Benteke, Sturridge

Norwich: Ruddy; Whittaker, Martin, Bassong, Brady; Dorrans, Tettey, Howson; Redmond, Jarvis, Jerome

Brendan Rodgers might have attained some credit from the Europa League draw in Bordeaux with a host of young pretenders, but the pressure still remains on the Liverpool boss after two straight league defeats either side of the international break. Norwich City, among the pre-season contenders to go down, have already won twice this season against Sunderland and Bournemouth but today is their first meeting with one of the league's big boys so it will be a true test of Alex Neil's side. Team news to follow.
