Liverpool will take on Wigan Athletic in the pre-season fixture scheduled between the two sides at the DW Stadium on Sunday, 17 July. The match takes place a day after the newly promoted Championship side lost 2-0 to the Reds' arch rivals, Manchester United on 16 July.

Jurgen Klopp has had four new faces in the squad as Joel Matip, Loris Karius and Sadio Mane have been signed by the Reds this summer. In addition to this, January signing Marko Grujic has returned to Anfield after completing his loan spell at Red Star Belgrade.

Grujic was on the scoresheet for the Merseyside club in their latest victory over Fleetwood Town. Liverpool managed a comfortable 5-0 win. This was their second pre-season fixture after the first match against Tranmere Rovers ended in a 1-0 win, thanks to a second half goal from Danny Ings.

United's new manager Jose Mourinho started his first match with his new club with a comfortable 2-0 win. Will Keane and Andreas Pereira's second half goals were sufficient for the Portuguese tactician to seal his first win.

The Latics will be aware that it will be difficult to beat Klopp's side, especially when they do not have proper rest for the fixture. After this match, Liverpool will take on Huddersfield Town and then fly to the United States to take part in the International Champions Cup.
