Where to watch live

Kick-off is at 4pm GMT. Live coverage is on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD. Radio commentary of the game will be available on BBC Radio 5 Live. Catch the highlights of the game on BBC Match of the Day 2 on BBC One and BBC One HD at 10:30pm GMT.

Overview

City come into the fixture after settling for a goalless draw against Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League tie. Despite the draw, the Premier League side progressed to the last eight of the European competition, where they will now face Paris Saint-Germain. In the last league tie, Manuel Pellegrini's side failed to beat Norwich City as they did not score. City will be looking to bounce back when they face their derby rivals on Sunday.

United enter the tie after being eliminated by Liverpool in the Europa League last 16 tie. The Red Devils lost 2-0 in the first leg and the return leg at Old Trafford ended in a 1-1 draw, with Anthony Martial scoring for the hosts. Louis van Gaal has admitted that his side's chances of finishing in the top four depend on the result at the Etihad. United will be looking for a victory when his side take on their neighbours in the league tie later this weekend.

What manager says

Manuel Pellegrini: "It's always important, if you have 24 hours or 48 hours more of resting. It's not a decisive thing for the game but you can prepare the game better. That's the problem of playing in the Europa League – playing on Thursday is difficult."

Louis van Gaal: "We are now four points behind City, I think, so you have to win. Otherwise the gap is bigger and bigger and the matches that you have to play are not so big. If we lose, I think then it is seven points and we have to play another eight matches. Then it is very sharp to recover from that gap. It is still possible, but I think it's difficult then because West Ham is also in front, so it is not only City but West Ham United."
