Brazil legend Lucio has backed Neymar to shine at Manchester United if he decides to switch Nou Camp for Old Trafford. The star forward has been linked with a move to Premier League giants in the last summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old joined the Catalan club from Santos in 2013. He won the treble playing under Luis Enrique in the 2014/15 season and went on to score in the Champions League final against Juventus.

Neymar earlier revealed he had held talks with the Red Devils as they were interested in securing his services. The former Brazil international believes his compatriot will adapt to the physicality of the Premier League quickly and prove his worth.

"The Premier League has a different style of play and should he join United, he may take time to adjust. Even if he goes to England, he will be successful in a short time as he is capable of adapting very quickly at United," Lucio told IBTimes UK.

"I know Neymar, but not too well. He has achieved a lot at Barcelona and has also proved how good a player he is. He is a skilful player. If he is happy and comfortable at Barcelona, then he should remain there."

The Brazil star forward's contract with Barcelona runs out in 2018. The La Liga giants want to extend his contract to end the speculation surrounding his future. However, Neymar is in no rush to sign a new deal.

His father confirmed United made a bid for the player's services earlier in the summer. However, the deal did not take shape as Neymar continued with his current employers. "The offer reached Barcelona and the club contacted us saying they were not going to sell. They asked if we were interested, but that wasn't the case," his father Neymar Santos Sr is as quoted as saying by the Guardian. "Barcelona are not selling, he has three years still to go on his contract. It was Manchester's deal, but that offer is not on the table now, it has fallen through."
