Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly favourites to land Marco Reus this summer after Real Madrid pulled out of the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund star.

According to talkSPORT, the Spanish capital club have cooled their interest in the German after opting to sign James Rodriguez over Reus last summer and are currently not in the market for yet another creative player with Modric, Bale and Isco on their books.

Reus has had a start-stop season with injuries restricting his appearances, and he also missed Germany's triumphant World Cup campaign after suffering an injury just before the tournament in Brazil.

But he has been impressive every time he has taken to the field and was a key player in the second half of the season for Dortmund as they looked to pull themselves out of the relegation places after a disastrous first-half of the Bundesliga campaign. They eventually finished in seventh place after starting the year at the bottom of the table.

The Red Devils and the Gunners have been on the midfielder's trail since last summer, but cooled their interest due to his injury and the German club's reluctance to sell.

United are said to be favourites to land the midfielder's signature, but will face stiff competition from Arsene Wenger's team as they look to add more quality to their team ahead of mounting a title challenge next campaign.

Reus will command a huge fee as he only recently signed a new contract which keeps him with the Bundesliga side until at least the summer of 2019. They will be reluctant to let one of their key players leave the club, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels' futures at the club.
