Manchester United will only pay the full fee for Anthony Martial if the player goes onto win the Ballon d'Or. The Premier League giants sealed a huge move for the Monaco starlet on transfer deadline day, one that makes the 19 year old the most expensive teenager in the history of the game.

According to BBC Sport, United have paid £36m ($55.1m) for the forward, but the figure has the potential to rise to an amount that falls just short of the record fee the club paid for Angel Di Maria in 2014.

Expectations are already high for a player who is yet to be capped at international level, but United have structured the deal in a manner that ensures they will only pay the full fee if Martial meets some considerable targets.

Le Parisien reports United have paid an initial fee of €50m (£36.4m, $55.5m) and will pay three bonus payments on top of the initial fee, each worth €10m (£7.2m). Monaco will receive the first additional payment when Martial scores his first 25 goals in all competitions for the club. The second instalment will follow once he earns 25 caps for France between now and June 2019, the length of the contract he signed at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The third payment will reach Monaco's bank account should Martial will the Ballon d'Or award for being the best player on the planet, an accolade won by a Manchester United player just once since 1969.

While much has been made of the fee he has arrived in Manchester for, Martial has shrugged off the immediate focus he has come under. "I don't feel the pressure," he told MUTV. "I know there is pressure but I'm ready for it. I'm very happy because it's a big club in England. I'm very proud. I'm very happy because I worked hard for this and my family is very happy about it.

"I spoke with the coach, Louis van Gaal, and I know that I need to work very hard. It's not easy to speak about myself but I am a very fast player. I hope that everything will go well for me at this club. I'm very happy because the supporters are great here. I will be ready when the time comes."
