Manchester United midfielder Joe Rothwell will join Championship side Blackpool on loan until the end of the season.

Rothwell, 20, is yet to make a first team appearance for United but has been a regular in Warren Joyce's Under-21 side and will get to experience first team football at Bloomfield Road.

United confirmed the move via their official Twitter account.

Blackpool boss Lee Clark told Blackpool's official website: "Joe is someone we've been monitoring for a while and I'm pleased that a deal has been agreed. He's very highly regarded at Old Trafford and I'm looking forward to working with him."

Rothwell, who scored an impressive brace for the Under-21's in a 5-0 thrashing of Blackburn Rovers in November, is the third United youngster to leave the club on a loan deal in January.

His midfield partner Ben Pearson linked up with League One side Barnsley early in the transfer window, joining the Tykes on a month-long deal.

Will Keane has also left the club in search of greater first team opportunities, joining Sheffield Wednesday.

United also allowed the striker's twin brother Michael Keane to join Burnley on a permanent deal after the centre half impressed during an initial loan move at Turf Moor during the first half of the season.

Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone briefly returned to Old Trafford after being recalled from his loan spell with Doncaster Rovers before joining Preston North End for the remainder of the season.

Rothwell is in line to make his Blackpool debut against Brighton on Saturday (31 January).
