Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria is Manchester United's main target for the upcoming transfer window, according to reports in one of Spain's most popular newspapers.

Mundo Deportivo claims David Moyes team is willing to offer more than £17m to Real to acquire the services of the Argentinian winger.

However, Di Maria's release clause is around £41m and the Spanish team will not accept anything less than that - especially after selling Mesut Ozil to Arsenal last summer and recently losing Sami Khedira for the rest of the season due to injury.

Although Di Maria started the season as a starting player for Carlo Ancelotti, it appears he is going to lose his place in the team sooner rather than later due to Gareth Bale's arrival. The former Tottenham player is now fit to play regularly and the Italian manager wants him to play on the right side, where Di Maria has played until now.

Furthermore, Ancelotti uses three attacking players and the two other places will be taken by Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

Manchester United wish to take advantage of this situation to convince Di Maria to move in the next transfer window. The winger is a key player for Argentina and he could consider a move elsewhere to ensure a place in the national team for the World Cup.

With Welbeck, Valencia, Nani and Young far from their best this season, David Moyes wants a top player to partner Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie in the front-line. Di Maria, who can play in both sides of the pitch, has already scored 3 goals and created 6 assists this season and apart from his talent and good technique is also a really hard working player.
