Manchester United are considering a move to sign Burnley star Danny Ings in the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old's contract with his current employers expires at the end of the season and they have decided against renewing the deal. The striker has already scored nine goals and managed four assists in 29 appearances, despite Sean Dyche side's poor performance in the league.

Ings's form has seen him attract interest from England and abroad. United's arch rivals Liverpool are keen on securing his services and even made an approach for landing him in the mid-season transfer window.

Manchester City are also in the frame, while former Red Devils manager David Moyes wanted to sign him for Real Sociedad. However, it is believed the 20-time English champions are set to beat their domestic rivals and also the La Liga outfit in signing the Englishman.

Louis van Gaal's side have already held talks with Burnley and are now leading the race to sign the goal-scoring striker. Ings's form has not gone unnoticed as he is knocking at the door for an England debut.

The Burnley man managed to trouble United defenders during his side's 3-1 defeat against United and even got his name on the score sheet. The Dutchman was impressed with Ings and since then he has been an admirer of the player.

Despite being a free agent in the summer, a move to Burnley's domestic rivals will see them receive a fee of around £5m ($7.3m).

Van Gaal currently has the services of his compatriot Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Radamel Falcao and James Wilson as the four first choice strikers. The Colombian international is on loan from AS Monaco and has struggled during his time in England.

Another report from the Daily Mail claims the former Arsenal captain will be offered £5m ($7.3m) to leave United this summer. With Falcao's deal unlikely to be made permanent and Van Persie's future uncertain, the United manager will be left with Rooney and Wilson as the only two players in the squad.

With the Old Trafford club now favourites to sign Ings, a move for the Burnley star will see United strengthen their strike force for the next season. However, his arrival could force either Falcao or Van Persie out of the club in the upcoming transfer window.
