Overview

Marin Cilic registered what is arguably the biggest shock of the BNP Masters 2016, beating world number one Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-6 in the quarter-final at the AccorHotels Arena on 4 November (Thursday).

The number 10 ranked player was not the favourite to win, given his 0-14 win loss record against Djokovic who had won the last 12 sets they had played against each other. However, the Bosnian put on a terrific performance, hitting the Serb early to race to a 2-0 lead in the first set.

From there on, Cilic dominated the game and will now look to build on his form and reach the final in Paris for the first time in his career.

His opponent John Isner had a tougher time against fellow American Jack Sock in the quarter-final but held on to register a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 victory. This was his first appearance in a Masters 1000 series semi final since 2011 with the American not having the best of times in the past few seasons.

Isner does not have the best of records against Cilic in ATP history and will need to be at the top of his game if he has to emerge victorious on Saturday.
