Nexus 10 Gets Official Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean OTA Update via JOP40D Firmware [How to Install]

Nexus 10 devices have been receiving the official Android 4.2.1 JOP40D firmware OTA update (Over-The-Air) for quite some time now. Though the update is available for download as OTA, some users might have missed the automatic update for some reason. They can now manually update the official OTA firmware to their devices using the guide given below.

It must be noted that the new JOP40D firmware update is not a major release, but rather a bug-fix or patch update for Android 4.2. The patch reportedly fixes several of the bugs found in Google's earlier releases including the December missing date bug-fix.

The new Android 4.2.1 update can be manually downloaded from the OTA updates option or you must wait for the automatic notification to install the update, when it is ready.

Key Points to Note

  • Android 4.2.1 JOP40D OTA firmware and the instructions provided in this guide are applicable for the Nexus 10 device only and will not work with any other device. Verify your device's model number by navigating to Settings > About Phone.
  • Ensure that the correct USB drivers are installed for your Nexus 10 device to enable connectivity with the computer (Download SamsungNexus 10 USB drivers)
  • IBTimes UK advises users to backup apps, important personal data and settings to avoid data loss while installing the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean firmware update. Manual data backup is advisable instead of using Samsung KIES software for better results.

NOTE: If your tablet has ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) or TWRP recovery installed, it is recommended that you backup all your data using one of these recovery tools for a safer yet faster way of data backup.

  • Enable USB debugging mode (through Developer settings in Android 4.2) on your tablet device: Go to Settings > About Phone. Then scroll down to the bottom to build number and tap on "build number" seven times. Right after the third tap, a dialogue box pops out saying you are only four taps away from being a developer. Keep tapping until the Developer options menu is unlocked under Settings. You can now enable USB debugging mode from here.
  • To enable USB debugging on earlier versions (before Android 4.2), go to Settings > Applications > Development and check the USB debugging option.
