Overview

Okuhara would be disappointed after her quarter-final clash was scheduled against her compatriot Akane Yamaguchi. She lost the opening set to Yamaguchi, but managed to bounce back to level the match at 1-1 after the second set.

However, Okuhara did not face any trouble from Yamaguchi to clinch the third set and also the match to seal her berth in the semi-final of the women's event in Rio. The final scoreline was 11-21, 21-17, 21-10.

Meanwhile, her opponent, Sindhu made it to the last four of the event in Brazil by defeating former women's singles world champion Wang Yihan. The Chinese badminton player was the favourite to win the quarter-final.
