One Direction Prepare for Global Takeover on First Official 1D Day
One Direction excited ahead of 1D Day
One Direction's bid for global domination continues with the first ever official 1D day on Saturday (23 November).
Ahead of the release of their new album Midnight Memories on Monday, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson will be broadcasting live to Directioners all over the world in a seven-hour live stream event.
"1D Day is all about giving back to our amazing fans for supporting us for the past three years," said Payne. "When we suggested it, we never thought anyone would let us loose live all day - we cannot wait."
The band will be based in Los Angeles for the event, as they broadcast to over 61 countries via YouTube & Google+. And Directioners around the world will have the opportunity to speak with the band during the "One Big Drop In" as the boys crash 1D Google hangout parties throughout the live stream.
1D Day producer and director of their Story of My Life video Ben Winston told MTV News: "It will be broadcast all over the world and people can watch them present for a seven-hour marathon linking in to lots of shows across the world connecting with fans. And it's almost like the most amazing webcam broadcast you could ever imagine."
The seven-hour 1D marathon will also feature some of their celebrity friends with stars such as Robbie Williams, Celine Dion, Simon Cowell, Kelly Rowland, Piers Morgan, The Muppets and Khloe Kardashian dropping in to join the party.
"We've got celebrity guests coming in, we've got a quiz that we are doing, there's competitions..." said Winston. "It's a really fun-packed day from everything from wrestlers to choirs to a house band to playing the new album. It's going to be packed."
The Kiss You singers will attempt to break several world records every hour. "We are going to try and break a world record every hour. For things like how many toilet rolls can you pile up in a pile," explained Winston.
And the boys will also be dropping in on the 50th anniversary party of Dr Who as 1D Day broadcasts into Doctor Who Live: The Afterparty on BBC3.
