Chelsea midfielder Oscar says victory over the defending Premier League champions Manchester United will lay down a significant marker ahead of the rest of the season.

Following successive home wins over Hull City and Aston Villa, the Blues are one of only four sides with 100% win records in the top flight, along with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Monday's hosts United.

Having already played a game more, with the Super Cup final against Bayern Munich in Prague on Friday, Chelsea can open up an early six point lead with victory over United in David Moyes' first home game in charge.

And Oscar, who has picked up from where he left off last season with a pair of impressive performances at the start of the campaign, wants Chelsea to seize the opportunity.

"If we win we can open up a gap of six points to Manchester United already, in addition to the fact they're the champions and the importance a victory against them has," Oscar told the club's official website.

"We know it will be difficult but nevertheless we know we can win at Old Trafford. We did it last year and we'll hope to accomplish the same this year.

"It's obviously a very important match, and the first of two in succession with Manchester United and Bayern Munich, which are clearly big for us.

"We are hopeful we can play well, it's true it's only the start of the championship but we can't be complacent, this is such an important game and we're sure if we put everything into practice all we are planning in training we can get the three points which will be great for us.

"They are one of the best teams we will play against, one of our greatest rivals and undoubtedly come the end of the season they will be fighting for titles. For this reason we know we need to play well. It will be difficult for us but at the same time it will be difficult for them."

Chelsea defeated United twice in four meeting between the two sides last season, losing the early-season league meeting at Stamford Bridge before knocking Sir Alex Ferguson's side out of the FA Cup in a replay and beating them at Old Trafford as the season reached the sharp end.

The Juan Mata inspired win proved significant in the west Londoners earning qualification for the Champions League but the returning Jose Morinho, who was heavily linked with eventually taking over from Ferguson at United, will be hoping victory leads to greater success.
