United Coach: Moyes Will Make Final Decision over January Transfer Business

Manchester United manager David Moyes will have the final say over making transfers in the January transfer window after a disappointing start to the season, according to former midfielder Paul Scholes.

Marouane Fellaini was the only signing made by United in the summer but the club have been linked with returning with offers for Leighton Baines and Ander Herrera.

Moyes has so far been coy over United's business in the New Year and Scholes, who is coaching the club's Under-18 side alongside Nick Butt, says the Scot will make the final decision over the club's activity.

"If the manager feels like he needs to go out and buy someone in January then I'm sure that's what he'll do," Scholes told Eurosport.

"There's obviously been a lot of talk, especially because United aren't doing as well as we'd all hoped, but it's not my place to say whether he should go out and buy another midfielder.

"Adnan (Januzaj) has obviously broken through this year and has got great talent. He's a really gifted lad and if he gets his head down and works hard then he'll have a great career in the game."

A new midfielder is understood to be top of Moyes' transfer wishlist, even with Michael Carrick expected to return from injury before Christmas.

Fellaini is due to undergo surgery on a wrist injury around the festive period and could miss the start of the year, while the United midfielder has been criticised for lacking creativity despite a recent 12 match unbeaten run.

Scholes believes that United already have the necessary resources to calm such fears, with Tom Cleverley identified as candidate to lead the club's title push.

"Tom has been there quite a few years now and has done okay," Scholes added.

"But it's time Tom kicked on. He does play a lot of games and he is a quality player. That is emphasised when he gets in the England squad. Now it's time he went on to the next level at Manchester United."
