'Enough Is Enough': Viral Video Shows Saginaw Officers Repeatedly Striking Woman as Internal Probe Launched

Saginaw Police Department has launched an Internal Affairs investigation after viral videos appeared to show officers using a Taser and repeatedly striking a woman in the head during an arrest in downtown Saginaw, Michigan.

The footage, recorded from several angles, shows officers using a Taser before the woman is taken to the ground and struck multiple times. Michigan State Police are conducting a separate review, while an officer and a sergeant connected to the arrest have been placed on administrative duty pending the inquiries.

The case has drawn attention because multiple videos show parts of the confrontation from different viewpoints. The recordings do not establish the full sequence of events before filming began, and investigators have not reached conclusions about whether the force used complied with policy or law.

Viral Saginaw Arrest Video Prompts Police Review

Police said the arrest happened at about 12.06am on Sunday, 30 August 2026, after officers responded to a large gathering near Rita's Southern Soul Café, at the corner of Genesee and South Washington avenues. The crowd had gathered after a private event at the venue spilled into nearby streets.

Chief Robert M. Ruth said officers had received reports of altercations in the area and that police from several departments were called to assist. Police also used a gas-dispersal agent as officers attempted to disperse the crowd.

The woman, 42, was taken to hospital for assessment before being booked into Saginaw County Jail at about 9.25am on Sunday. She was held on allegations of assaulting, resisting or obstructing law enforcement, which have not been tested in court.

Police said an officer and a sergeant directly involved in the arrest were removed from regular duties during the review. The department said the administrative action was a standard procedure intended to support a fair and impartial process.

Saginaw Police Examine Use of Force

The Saginaw Police Officers Association said it 'fully supports' the officers involved. Its president, Julian Guevara, said the association would '100% have their backs' while the investigations continue.
