Owners of the newest Samsung Galaxy Note 2 can now back up the EFS partition on their devices using a one-click tool that will allow both backup and restore when required. The EFS partition can be wiped when users flash custom ROMs on their machines. This might remove vital IMEI data and cripple all network functions.

How to back up and restore EFS on Galaxy Note 2:

Backup EFS

    • Your Galaxy Note 2 should be rooted
    • Download and install the Samsung Kies software on your PC. It will install all the drivers needed for your Note 2. Skip this step if you have already installed the software.
    • Download the EFS Backup tool from here
    • Extract all the contents of the downloaded zip file to any convenient place on your PC
    • Enable USB debugging on your device by heading to Settings > Developer options
    • Connect your Galaxy Note 2 to the PC
    • Navigate to the folder where you have extracted the zip file
    • Double-click the Backup_EFS file and follow the instructions on the screen in order to back up your Note 2's EFS folder to the PC. Once you back up, the backup file will be saved in the same folder in the .img format

Restore EFS

    • Double-click the Restore_EFS file to restore the EFS data. But, before doing so, ensure that the backed-up EFS file is in the same folder as the Backup_EFS file
