Apple's new iPhone Duo
Apple's first foldable iPhone has arrived, and Samsung's carefully unnamed social-media remark has put the rivalry back in focus Via Apple

Samsung Mobile US appeared to take aim at Apple this week moments after the $1,999 iPhone Duo, the company's first foldable iPhone, was unveiled, posting on X: 'Let us know when you're done reheating our leftovers 😉'. The timing led users to link the remark to Apple's launch, although Samsung did not name Apple or the iPhone Duo directly.

Apple introduced iPhone Duo as a foldable handset built around a 7.6‑inch inner display and a 5.4‑inch outer screen.

The launch places Apple's first folding iPhone in a product category where Samsung has sold foldable smartphones since 2019, providing context for users who interpreted the remark as referring to Apple, although the post itself did not identify the company.

Samsung Post Follows iPhone Duo Reveal

The Samsung Mobile US post quickly drew replies from users who interpreted it as a reference to Apple's new device. Some criticised the tone, while others joined in with their own jokes or defended the design of the iPhone Duo.

One user, @maz01148899, replied: 'Jesus, you are so pathetic, how old are you? 5? A company as big as yours should shut up and do your own thing, not mocking other companies. They don't have to release a folding phone just because you have been doing it for years.'

Another account, @utdZaiire, responded: 'This is how you do a foldable, Samsung 👇', alongside a video showing Apple's design. A third user, @thejoevisuals, called the post 'the most garbage marketing/pr i've ever seen, just give it up'.

Not every response was critical. @50shadesofLizie suggested Samsung had 'missed an opportunity' to write, 'Appled finally folded'.

The replies showed that users interpreted the post in different ways, but Samsung's wording did not identify Apple, the iPhone Duo or the launch directly. Any reading of the post as a jab at Apple therefore rests on its timing and the context in which users received it.

iPhone Duo Brings Apple's First Foldable Design

Apple said the iPhone Duo is its first foldable iPhone and its largest iPhone display to date. Opened, the device uses a 7.6‑inch inner Super Retina XDR display. Closed, it has a 5.4‑inch outer display that Apple says provides 90 per cent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro.

Both displays use the same aspect ratio, allowing content to scale proportionally as the phone is opened or closed.

Apple also said the inner display uses a nano‑texture finish designed to reduce glare and reflections, while both screens support ProMotion, Always On and peak outdoor brightness of 3,000 nits.

Apple also said the foldable will support Apple Pencil with USB‑C later this year.

Touch ID is built into the side button for authentication whether iPhone Duo is open or closed, while users can also unlock the handset using their Apple Watch.

The handset runs on Apple's A20 Pro chip and uses a dual‑battery architecture with a custom‑designed vapour chamber for thermal management. Apple says the phone can provide up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer display.

Apple also lists faster charging among the iPhone Duo's specifications. According to Apple, iPhone Duo can reach 50 per cent charge in around 20 minutes, or about 30 minutes when charging wirelessly with MagSafe or a Qi2 charger.

iPhone Duo Arrives in October

Apple said iPhone Duo will be offered in star white and night sky. Pre‑orders are scheduled to begin on Friday, 16 October, before availability starts on Friday, 23 October.

Apple CEO John Ternus described the device as 'the most transformational change to iPhone since the original' and said the folding design shows what is possible when hardware and software are engineered together.

Samsung, meanwhile, left its own post at one line. Whether it was aimed at Apple was not stated outright.
