Overview

After winning the first two matches, England suffered their first defeat in the ODI in the third match against South Africa. That has kept the Proteas' hopes of winning the series alive, despite trailing 2-1 heading into the fourth match.

It was Quinton de Kock and Hashiim Amla's centuries that helped South Africa seal a victory in Centurion. England put up 318 on the board after Joe Root's 125 helped them post a stiff target for the hosts.

De Kock and Amla's opening partnership of 239 runs, with both scoring 135 and 127 respectively, made sure that South Africa sealed a seven-wicket victory with more than three overs to spare. They will be hoping for another victory in the fourth ODI to level the series.

England will have to rely once again on their batsmen, but also hope their bowlers can shine at the same time. Except Adil Rashid, every bowler conceded more than six runs per over and Eoin Morgan will be looking to restrict the African side when they face them again on Friday.
