Tottenham legend Jurgen Klinsmann has spoken out about David Moyes' dismissal by Manchester United, saying the Scot should have been given more time at Old Trafford.

Klinsmann, now coaching the United States national team, said his initial reaction to the news was one of "big disappointment."

The former Spurs star, who also played for Bayern Munich and Inter Milan during his playing days, said: "David Moyes, and I met him throughout many years, is an absolutely excellent coach.

"He needed more time, and now pulling the plug doesn't make sense."

Klinsmann also said Moyes should have been given a couple of big transfers to kick-start his reign, and was severely hampered by a number of injuries to key players, including striker Robin van Persie.

Moyes, who was appointed United manager in May last year, was sacked earlier this week after losing 15 games in his one and only season at Old Trafford, and receiving huge criticism from sizeable swathes of the crowd.

This calendar year United have lost 10 of their 22 games, a run which has seen them eliminated from all three cup competitions while falling well off the pace in the Premier League.
