Overview

Stan Wawrinka's defence of his French Open title continued with a straight sets win over Taro Daniel and will now take on home favourite Jeremy Chardy in the third round. The World No 4 is on course to enter the latter stages of the tournament and on current form should see off the Frenchman. He is likely to meet Kei Nishikori or Nick Kyrgios in the quarter-finals, which will be a tricky tie and then face Murray in the semi-finals if the Briton wins all his matches.

Chardy, meanwhile, comes into the game following a comfortable three-set win over Andrey Pavlasek, but faces an uphill task against the Swiss star, who has won on all four occasions they have faced each other, with two of them on clay. The fourth round has been the Frenchman's best performance at Roland Garros – he lost to Andy Murray last year in the round of 16 – but owing to current form, he is unlikely to make it that far when he faces the defending champion on Friday evening.
