Overview

Spurs come into this fixture after suffering a 1-3 defeat to Benfica in the first leg last-16 tie of the Europa League. Rodrigo opened the scoring for the Portuguese outfit, before Luisao doubled the lead after the start of the second half.

Christian Eriksen pulled one back for Tim Sherwood's side, but the Dane's goal alone was not sufficient before Luisao scored the third goal of the evening for Benfica.

Spurs have a tough task ahead of them in the return leg to progress further in the second tier of the European club competition.

Meanwhile, Arsenal enter this game after the last fixture against Bayern Munich ended in a 1-1 draw. The result saw Arsene Wenger's side suffer a 3-1 aggregate defeat over the two legs as the Gunners made an exit from the Champions League.

In the last league tie, Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat away from home to Stoke City. The result has seen the Emirates club slip fourth in the league table with 59 points from 28 games. Spurs are fifth with 51 points and have played one game more compared to their arch rivals.

What Managers Say

Tim Sherwood: "It is my first time as a manager at the Lane to be standing opposite Arsene Wenger and hopefully I will get one over on them. I don't think there is much blood and thunder these days - I want it to be more of that."

Arsene Wenger: "I don't know Sherwood as a coach. I knew him as a player because I am a long time in this job. I like the fact that he has learned his job and gets his chance. In England you rightly complain that young managers don't get a chance. When you get one you have to support him."
