Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move in signing Southampton duo Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez, according to the Express.

The north London club have appointed Mauricio Pochettino as Tim Sherwood's successor for the next season. The Argentine manager arrived at White Hart Lane after leaving the Saints.

Schneiderlin and Rodriguez have both played under the 42-year-old manager with Southampton. Pochettino remains hopeful that the chance to play under him once again could help convince the Southampton star duo to join him at Spurs.

The White Hart Lane outfit's manager is set to make a bid of around £35m in landing both the French international and England striker in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been a transfer target for Spurs' arch rivals, Arsenal. The Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is believed to have set his sights on Schneiderlin after their move for Real Madrid star Sami Khedira collapsed.

Both the north London clubs are likely to enter into a summer battle for the French midfielder's services. However, Arsenal have an edge over Spurs in landing Schneiderlin after the player expressed his desire to feature in the Champions League.

"For my progress and my visibility, it would be better to play for a club who play in the Champions League," Schneiderlin explained.

"I know there is a lot of speculation, but I still have three years on my contract, it does not depend on me. We'll see in the coming weeks."

Meanwhile, Rodriguez is currently with a knee injury he picked up against Manchester City in April. The 24-year-old striker is recovering from his injury and will be out of action for the next few months.

The England international has two years left on his contract and Southampton are keen on giving him a new five-year deal. However, Rodriguez has rejected a chance to sign a new deal as he is hoping to attract potential suitors, despite his injury. Spurs are looking to take the risk of signing Rodriguez this summer.

Spurs could face competition from Liverpool, who are also linked with a move for the striker. Brendan Rodgers has already signed Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana from Southampton, and the Reds are closing in on signing the Saints defender Dejan Lovren.

Southampton have already let three of their players, Lambert, Lallana and Luke Shaw leave the south-coast club. Should the report of Spurs planning a double swoop for Schneiderlin and Rodriguez be true, it will be a massive blow for the Saints in their pursuit of holding on to their star players.
