Tottenham look set to beat Premier League rivals Liverpool to the signing of Swansea City left-back Ben Davies.

According to the Mirror, the Welsh defender is ready to make the switch from Swansea and Tottenham look to be his likely destination, but the defender was hoping to move to Anfield in the hope of playing Champions League football next season.

The Welsh international, who has come up through the youth ranks, was a key player for the Swans in the last couple of seasons. He also went on to win the League Cup in his debut year as a member of the first team.

However, the 21-year-old defender, seems to have chosen north London over Merseyside as his next football destination. It is claimed that Davies was not sure about how much playing time he would get with the Anfield club, as they continue to pursue Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno.

While at White Hart Lane, he is going to be a very good candidate to go straight into the first team and be assured of regular playing time.

Spurs are said to be close to agreeing a fee in the region of £8m for the defender, and looks like the south Wales club will accept the offer as they have their own summer dealings that need wrapping up.

Moreover, Swansea are hoping that smooth dealings with the north London club over the Davies transfer will get them first preference in their chase for players who are not in Mauricio Pochettino's plans for next season.

According to the Daily Mail, the Swans are interested in bringing Gylfi Sigurdsson and Kyle Naughton to the Liberty stadium, but will require Spurs to subsidise the former's wages in order to complete the deal.
