Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move for Malaga striker Jose Salomon Rondon, amid speculation that the club's attempts to sign Manchester City's Emmanuel Adebayor have hit a snag.

Rondon has scored 27 goals in two seasons after joining the La Liga outfit but could leave this summer due to a dispute with the owners over unpaid wages. Arsenal and Chelsea both sent scouts to watch Rondon last season. However Spurs are now weighing up a move for the 22 year old and could offer Giovanni dos Santos in a player-swap deal, reports the Daily Mail.

The Venezuelan international has a €20mn (£15.6mn) release clause and two years left on his Malaga contract but the Spaniards might consider selling him to Tottenham for €15mn (£11.7mn), as they are on the brink of a financial crisis, according to Marca.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is short of firepower up front as Jermain Defoe is the only recognised senior striker left in the ranks. Adebayor has returned to City after a season-long loan and Louis Saha was released by Spurs in the summer, while Russian Roman Pavlyuchenko was sold to Lokomotiv Moscow earlier in the year. The Portuguese tactician is understood to be keen on at least two more forwards, even if Defoe, who has been linked to QPR and Reading, decides to stay at the club.

Meanwhile, Tottenham's efforts to sign Adebayor from City have hit a wall, reports The Sun.

The north London club were expected to complete a permanent deal for the Togo international this week after his impressive performances for them last season, when the former Arsenal forward notched 17 goals and 11 assists from 33 league appearances.

But the report says that even though the 28 year old is keen to return to Spurs, City are demanding a fee of £6mn for the want-away striker. Adebayor has informed Tottenham he is ready to take a big cut in his £175,000 a week wages at City to facilitate a transfer to White Hart Lane but as it stands he is set to return to first-team training at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.
