JJ Gabriel's Dad Furious After Man Utd Snubbed 'Kid Messi' for Two 19-Year-Olds Before Shock Exit Request

Manchester United's 15-year-old academy prospect JJ Gabriel has formally asked to leave the club, with his representatives requesting the cancellation of his registration with immediate effect.

The request allegedly surprised United, which believes the situation can still be resolved. Gabriel had been expected to be included in the squad for Wednesday's Carabao Cup match against Brighton and was in line to become the club's youngest player in a competitive fixture.

The request came days after Gabriel scored a hat-trick for United's Under-19s against Sabah in the UEFA Youth League. Later that day, 19-year-olds Shea Lacey and Harry Amass made their Champions League debuts against the same opposition. The timing has fuelled reports of frustration over Gabriel's pathway to senior football, although neither he nor his representatives have publicly confirmed a specific reason for the request.

Gabriel's Father Involved In Career

Gabriel's father, Joe O'Cearuill, has been closely involved in his football career. O'Cearuill is a former professional footballer who played for St Patrick's Athletic and had spells at Arsenal and Brighton before winning two Republic of Ireland caps.

United officials are understood to have been surprised by the request and remain hopeful of resolving the situation. The club has pointed to the opportunities already given to Gabriel, including first-team training and meetings with former manager Ruben Amorim and Sir Alex Ferguson. The Guardian reported that United believes it has demonstrated a pathway towards senior football.

Gabriel joined United at 11 and became the youngest winner of the club's Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award last season. He also regularly played above his age group and scored a hat-trick against Sabah on his UEFA Youth League debut.

Two 19-Year-Olds Add To Gabriel Frustration

Gabriel was not involved in United's Champions League match against Sabah because he had not been included on the club's A list and was too young to qualify for the B list under UEFA rules. He instead started for the Under-19s and scored three goals in a 5-0 victory.

United then introduced Lacey and Amass in the 70th minute of the senior match, giving both players their Champions League debuts.

The Sun reported that the decision was viewed within Gabriel's camp as a significant factor in his desire to leave, while Sky Sports cited frustration over game time during pre-season and the start of the campaign as part of the reported reasoning. Neither explanation has been publicly confirmed by Gabriel or his representatives.

Gabriel had also removed Manchester United-related content from his Instagram account several days before the request, adding to questions over his future.

What Happens To Gabriel's Registration

Gabriel turns 16 on 6 October and cannot enter a professional contract until he is 17. Premier League guidance says a player can be offered a scholarship agreement during the Under-16 period, while a professional contract cannot be entered into until the player is 17.

His representatives have asked United to cancel his registration so he can become a free agent, but the club has not agreed to the request.

Manchester City have previously shown interest in Gabriel, while Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been linked with him. No new club has been confirmed.

Gabriel therefore remains registered with United while discussions over his future continue.
