Overview

Tottenham welcome former manager Tim Sherwood and his Aston Villa to White Hart Lane on Saturday for a clash that is crucial for both teams on either side of the Premier League table.

The north Londoners are battling for a place in the top four, and will be keen to at least finish above Liverpool, who are in fifth place by virtue of a better goal difference.

On the other hand, Villa are in a relegation dog fight and a win will put them one step closer to safety, as they are currently just three points shy of the drop zone.

Mauricio Pochettino will be without two key first-team players in Hugo Lloris and Kyle Walker, who are both carrying foot injuries and will be a big miss as the manager looks to get back to winning ways after last week dour draw at Turf Moor.

Meanwhile, Tim Sherwood returns to White Hart Lane for the first time since he was sacked by Daniel Levy to make way for Mauricio Pochettino. The Villa boss will be familiar with most of the Tottenham players as he helped develop most of the young players currently in the first-team.

He will be hoping that Villa can take momentum from their thrilling 3-3 midweek draw against Queens Park Rangers and record an upset win over his former side.

Christian Benteke is back in form and the manager will be hoping that the Congo striker continues his goal scoring spree, which has seen him score seven goals in his last five appearances.

What managers say

Mauricio Pochettino: "He (Benteke) has great momentum. He is a very good player. A strong player. We need to be careful with him. Aston villa have a very good side and tomorrow we expect a tough game."

Tim Sherwood: "It's good to be the chosen one at a football club the size of Aston Villa. This is the dream job of all time for me. I need to be in the Premier League, I've come here to be a Premier League manager. I will take my part of the responsibility if it doesn't work out."
