Overview

After a troublesome campaign during the previous season, Sam Allardyce would be hoping to start the season on a positive note with a win over their London rivals in front of home fans on Saturday.

The Hammers have been quite active in this transfer window and have already added six players to their squad. The list includes Pachuca, Diego Poyet, Aaron Cresswell, Cheikhou Kouyate, Mauro Zarate and Carl Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have managed to add only four players in this summer transfer window. The White Hart Lane club have signed DeAndre Yedlin, Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Michel Vorm so far and are still looking to make further additions to their squad.

The north London club start their season after allowing their former manager Tim Sherwood to leave the club after Tottenham failed to qualify for the Champions League. Club chairman Daniel Levy appointed Mauricio Pochettino as Sherwood's successor at White Hart Lane.

The former Southampton manager would be hoping to start his first competitive match with his new club with a win against West Ham at Upton Park.

What Managers Say

Sam Allardyce: "It's a very exciting fixture for the players, the fans and everybody else surrounding West Ham. A big local derby to start the season off and hopefully we can reproduce the performance that we did for the last game at home last year."

Mauricio Pochettino: "I know the business in football. I know that you live by the result, you need to get results. If not, you put yourself in difficulties. But the club and the chairman do not put any pressure on me or any challenges for me to achieve something. We have a very good relationship."
