Amazon Driver Gets 'Thief' Tattoo After Florida Bakery Accuses Him of Stealing $4 Cake Pop He Thought Was Free

A Florida Amazon delivery driver has turned a viral dispute over a cake pop into a permanent reminder, embracing the ordeal by getting a tattoo of a cake pop bearing the word 'thief' on his arm.

Wes Stott became the focus of intense online controversy after a local porch bakery publicly accused him of taking a sweet treat without paying. The Amazon driver later said it was an honest mistake, explaining that he thought the items were complimentary snacks for delivery workers.

Amazon Driver Accused of Stealing a Cake Pop

The dispute began when Stott stopped at Homemade Haven Porch Bakery in Milton, Florida, while delivering an Amazon parcel. A pink cooler near the entrance displayed treats beneath signage reading 'Treat Yourself to Homemade Haven'.

Stott said he interpreted the setup as an offer of free refreshments, something he associated with snacks sometimes left out for delivery workers. He took one cake pop, reportedly priced at $4 (£3), and left.

The bakery owner's husband, Adam Walters, subsequently shared doorbell-camera footage showing Stott in a local Facebook group. The now-deleted post also promoted the bakery and asked previous customers to leave Facebook reviews.

The post read: 'If anyone knows this Amazon driver, please tell him to come back and pay my wife for the cake pop he took. She works hard to put out these amazing goodies for ya'll and would really appreciate all the love and support. Side note, we all know the power of word of mouth. So, if any of yall have bought anything previously, we would be extremely grateful for a Facebook review Homemade Haven. Driver Explains the Mix-up

Stott soon identified himself in the comments and acknowledged that he had failed to pay attention to the signs.

'I saw "help yourself" and when I open the ice chest some of the treats said free,' he wrote, adding that he was 'in a hurry' and 'should've paid better attention'.

Stott stressed that 'nothing was done out of malicious intent' and asked people not to let the incident damage the bakery.

His wife subsequently paid $5 (£3.70) for the cake pop. The bakery later said the item cost $4 (£3) and that it returned the change.

As the dispute spread online, Stott reportedly embraced the unexpected attention by getting a tattoo depicting a cake pop with the word 'thief' on his arm.

Stott also appeared to lean into his newfound online notoriety. Stott reportedly created a TikTok account under the name Cake Pop King (@cakepopthief850), which had attracted more than 80,000 followers as of writing.

The incident has also generated significant support for Stott, with online users criticising the decision to post him over an unpaid $4 (£3) treat.

Florida Bakery Faces Backlash

The controversy subsequently turned against the bakery, which said it faced harassment, fraudulent orders and threats following the viral post.

In a statement later shared by the business, the bakery said it had received 'mass amounts of messages and phone calls' threatening its family and property. It said police were aware of the situation and that notifications had been disabled while the family took steps to protect their children.

The bakery also said it would continue operating and maintained that it runs on an honour system, with prices and payment options displayed at the porch stand.

What began with a disputed $4 (£3) cake pop has since grown into a much larger online controversy involving a public callout, backlash, and a tattoo Stott has used to embrace the viral encounter.
