Former US Army sniper Nick Betts quoted an unnamed serviceman as informing him that American troops killed three reptilian-looking beings during an alleged secret mission near Area 51 in Nevada.

Betts also claimed a US soldier died in the encounter and asserted that he was not a witness to the incident, even as no independent evidence has emerged to substantiate his version.

Betts recounted the claims on an episode of the Liberty Risk podcast, listed by Apple Podcasts as published on 5 December 2025.

The account recently sparked fresh online discussion, including sceptical responses, and Betts refused to say where the purported operation occurred.

Inside the Alleged Area 51 Mission

Betts said he heard the story in Poland while working on a documentary about the war in Ukraine. The man sharing it claimed to have served in the US special operations community. Betts referred to Joint Special Operations Command, or JSOC, but did not independently establish the man's military affiliation.

The unnamed man allegedly described an emergency deployment from Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Personnel at an underground installation a few miles from Area 51 had supposedly stopped making routine radio checks. A response force sent to investigate had also fallen silent, Betts said.

The soldiers were reportedly flown to Nevada, briefed at Area 51 and issued unusual weapons. Betts described a 'high-energy weapon system,' rather than conventional firearms, but provided no technical records or physical evidence. A Black Hawk helicopter then allegedly transported the unit to an entrance leading into the underground complex.

US Troops Tracking Intruders

Betts estimated that about six soldiers entered the tunnels, though his source did not specify the team's size. They were supposedly searching for three intruders when they encountered a bipedal figure. Betts said the creature was 'mildly reptilian-looking' and appeared to have fingers and a similar weapon.

According to Betts, the unnamed man claimed a serviceman was struck in the chest and killed. The other troops then allegedly returned fire, eventually killing all three beings. No identifiable witness, casualty record or mission report has been produced to corroborate the reported deaths or the encounter.

The account included a further allegation about the soldier's remains. Betts claimed they were cremated at the facility despite objections from colleagues citing the serviceman's Catholic faith.

He also alleged that the death was recorded as a training accident. He provided no documentation to support his claim that military records were falsified.

Why the Area 51 Account Remains Unverified

Betts acknowledged that the original conversation took place during an evening of drinking, although he described the speaker as coherent rather than 'sloppy.' He said an incident the following morning made him take the story seriously.

After Betts asked another alleged special operations soldier about aliens, the man reportedly grabbed him by the neck and slammed him against a wall.

Betts said he was warned never to raise the subject again. He also claimed he lost his documentary job after asking questions and that neither man would speak to him afterwards.

The reported confrontation in Poland is itself uncorroborated. Neither alleged participant has been publicly identified, and their military affiliations remain unverified. Betts's described reaction cannot establish that a secret operation occurred.

Betts also recalled being told that the underground base had biometric access controls, including handprint and iris scanners. He compared its appearance to the science-fiction film Independence Day. Those details remain part of an anonymous person's account, not a verified description of a facility.

In a Reddit discussion on 16 October, commenters questioned military details and asked when the mission supposedly happened.

Area 51 itself is real. The CIA has documented its use at Groom Lake to test the U-2 and A-12 reconnaissance aircraft. The agency has also rejected longstanding claims that aliens or flying saucers were housed there. That verified history does not support the alleged encounter.

Betts has not publicly identified the supposed participants, supplied a mission date or produced records establishing the reported fatality.
