Arsenal and Chelsea have been handed a boost after Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira revealed that he could leave the Santiago Bernabeu during the current summer transfer window.

The German international has been linked to a move all summer long and the Gunners, along with the Blues, were said to be leading the chase for the midfielder.

Khedira is on the final-year of his contract with the Spanish capital club and as revealed by manager Carlo Ancelotti, he has rejected an offer of an extension, therefore confirming his desire to leave the club.

"He's not asked to go. He's rejected an offer to renew, but has a year of contract. We'll see what happens," Ancelotti said, as quoted in the Mirror.

The 27-year-old midfielder admitted that as of right now he feels like he is on the fringes of the team and believes anything could happen before the end of the transfer window on August 31.

"Right now I'm a little out of Real Madrid. But until August 31 anything is possible," Khedira said, as quoted by Goal.

Khedira, who joined Real from Stuttgart in 2010, has been a key player for the reigning European champions, but has now lost his place in the team following the summer arrival of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez from Bayern Munich and AS Monaco respectively.

Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho are both keen on bolstering their midfield with a top-quality holding midfielder. And the former will be more anxious to land a holding midfielder after Mikel Arteta, who occupies the role currently for the Gunners has been ruled out for a couple of weeks with injury.

However, it is believed that, Chelsea are in pole position owing to the relationship between the player and the Portuguese manager during their time together at Real Madrid.
