Arsenal are considering a move in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi on the final day of the January transfer window, according to Goal.com.

The 26-year-old central midfielder has been a regular inclusion under Laurent Blanc, making 22 league appearances this season. The France international has less than six months left on his contract and has not signed a new deal to extend his stay at Parc des Princes beyond this season.

The north London club will be without the services of Aaron Ramsey for the next four to six weeks. The Wales international returned from a five-week layoff during the Gunners' 2-2 draw against Southampton. However, the midfielder aggravated the thigh injury, which kept him out from earlier fixtures this month.

Jack Wilshere is out of action with an ankle-problem while Mathieu Flamini will miss Arsenal's fixtures against Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Manchester United due to the red card he picked up during the game against the Saints.

With several midfielders unavailable with injuries and suspension, Arsene Wenger is keen on bringing in a central midfielder to strengthen Arsenal's squad before the transfer window shuts on 11pm GMT on Friday.

Wenger was disappointed as Arsenal failed to pick up three points. With Ramsey's injury and Flamini's suspension, Arsenal manager had hinted to make additions to the squad. The report claims the Frenchman has set his sights on his compatriot in bringing Matuidi to the Emirates on the last day of the January transfer window.

Any move from Arsenal in signing Matuidi will not be an easy task as their league rivals Manchester City are also believed to be interested in signing the central midfielder. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has issued warning to both English clubs in their approach of signing their midfielder.

The Gunners boss has admitted that Arsenal are active in the transfer market, but are still not close to making a signing on the final day of the transfer window. However, Goal.com claims that the Emirates club will be bringing two new faces to the club before the transfer window shuts on Friday.

Should Arsenal fail in their approach of signing Matuidi, Goal.com claims that Wenger could turn his attention in signing Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
