Is it a smartphone? Is it a tablet? Well it's actually both.

Asus has announced the Padfone 2, a 4.7 in smartphone that docks into a 10.1 in tablet. Both devices are powered on the phone.

The Asus Padfone 2 is a follow-up to their initial Padfone, with the company clearly feeling that they can find a market with the unique device. This time the phone is not placed in the tablet's docking bay, but is designed to slide in to a slot in the back.

Running on Android Ice Cream Sandwich, Asus has promised there will be an update to Jelly Bean in the near future.

The Padphone 2 has GPS for precise mapping, NFC for contactless payments, and comes with LTE, meaning that it would work on EE's 4G network.

Official UK pricing is yet to be announced, but in Taiwan the 16GB model will sell at £380, the 64GB version at £470, and the tablet dock for £190.
