The 2014 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on 18 May, in Las Vegas, Nevada, saw some of the most predictable winners sweeping away the trophies.

Justin Timberlake emerged the biggest winner at the award gala, hosted by Ludacris, with seven trophies, including Top Artist and Top Male Artist awards.

The 33-year-old American singer, who is on Europe tour along with his band, thanked the award ceremony for the honour. He wrote:

The other finalists of the Top Artist were Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry.

"It's not a competition, but if it was, I won. And guess what? I'm OK with that," Timberlake said about his competition singers for Top Artist in a taped speech.

Timberlake, who was nominated in 11 categories, was also named Top Male Artist while Katy Perry, who performed her hit Birthday at the award gala, received the female honour.

The second leading winner at Billboard Music Awards 2014 was Imagine Dragons who won five awards, including top Hot 100 artist for songs' chart performance, top rock artist and top duo/group.

The Grammy-winning Las Vegas band, which performed their song Tiptoe on the show, had the highest nominations with mentions in 12 categories.

Singers Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell Williams' song Blurred Lines won four awards, including Top Hot 100 Song, Top Digital Song, Top Radio Song and Top R&B Song.

Lorde, who was the other lead nominee with mentions in 12 categories, won Top New Artist award, while her song Royals was crowned Top Rock Song.
